Sol Cat – Fishin’ With John (Video)
Local rockers Sol Cat just released some fresh new summer-time visuals for “Fishin’ With John,” which was inspired by the 90′s MTV series of the same name, according to The Scene. After watching a clip of the show’s intro, you might find yourself wanting to know more about the unusual series. Well here it is.
John Lurie played sax and was the bandleader for The Lounge Lizards, who later emerged as a significant figure within the underground art scene of the 80′s. Somehow the band gig led to a financial investment from Japanese investors, when he then assembled a film crew and invited some famous friends–Jarmusch, Tom Waits, Willem Dafoe, Dennis Hopper and Matt Dillon–on a series of humorous fishing trips around the world, because after all, John was a terrible fisherman.
Now back to Sol Cat, the guys apparently called their friends after determining the “fishing destination” would be their backyard, made sure to have a few party favors, and then said let’s make a fucking video, or at least that’s what it seems in the good-natured fun-loving video featuring plenty of backyard shenanigans. “Fishin’ With John” will be included on the band’s upcoming LP, out next year. Download the new single below via Bandcamp. In other news, the band will be announcing an intimate Halloween House Party performance in Nashville later this week along with more southeast fall / winter tour dates. Stay tuned.
