Missing Cats and North Mississippi Allstars at Live On the Green (Week 3 – 9/20/2012) (BOAC Photos)
Last week proved to be another successful run of Lightning 100′s Live on the Green series, Nashville’s free concert series, as Billy Swayze, Roots of a Rebellion and headliners Missing Cats along with North Mississippi Alllstars proceded to own the night with a completely diverse array of music. Although we missed the two opening acts, Roots of a Rebellion have been on my playlist this week and you should give them a listen. After all, how many legit reggae bands does Nashville have? Go ahead, waiting…Now we did happen to make it for Missing Cats, who is made up of college buddies Sherman Ewing and JoJo Hermann (of Widespread Panic). The guys make you feel like you are sitting around listening to a story while sitting on the front porch on a beautiful day. The guys know how to have fun, plain and simple. North Mississippi All-Stars don’t come around very often but when they do, they perform some of that good old rock-and-roll. The resulting spirit was felt by the crowd who were grooving the entire night. While the two headliners might draw an older crowd, you’ll be happy to know that no one threw out a hip. The event ran flawlessly.
Tonight, don’t miss the incredible Brittany Howard of the blues-rock stompers Alabama Shakes, as she might be one of the best modern-day soul singers around, and playing at a free show. If you honestly have no clue who the Alabama Shakes are and honestly thought initially that was a new dance-move, then go watch a live performance of “Hold On” over at KEXP. Joining the Shakes will be The Apache Relay (watch their golf cart performance at Bonnaroo) and Fly Golden Eagle. Also, please note that for tonight’s Live on the Green, the event was forced to make a few minor changes in order to compensate for the larger crowd that’s been anticipated. For details, click here. In short, event handlers just made the festival site larger.
